Facts about India..

Recently I was at a seminar on Human Capital Management and one of the sessions was about how India is emerging as the back office capital of the world. The following facts are based on a research by KPMG, most of these facts we know but some of it was so candid I was quite impressed..

There are 1600 languages spoken in India.

18 official languages with Hindi as the national language.

English is the language for national, commercial, and political communication.

People in North of India cannot understand people from South of India

4th largest economy by Purchasing Power Parity at $2.6 Trillion due to a growing middle class of 250 million people.

The Education system is based on British system there are India has one of the largest "higher education systems in the world" with more than 7 million graduates of which 3.1 million join the workforce each year.

Only 20% of the population speak English.

There are still More English speakers in India than in England and roughly equivalent to the no of English speakers in the US -200 million

India emerging the back office capital of the world, with the IT Enabled services projecting employment for 1.1 Million professionals by 2009
